Doortjie is an exciting new children’s theatre production written by Ilne Fourie. The production brings to life the oerteltjies, forest-dwelling creatures named Doortjie, Driekie and Doppies who live in a forest between somewhere and nowhere. Spinnelina and her two sidekicks Afval and Stinktoon find great pleasure in causing chaos in the lives of the oertels. Luckily Koning Woeste Baard is there to maintain law and order in
the story. Add the teasing twins to the mix and Doortjie promises to be a fun children’s adventure with live music and original songs. Bring the whole family to discover the adventures of Doortjie and the other oertels.

The action takes place in the city of Athens, which is completely devoid of men. Every man, and every almost-man, has been called to war, and whilst they are being killed off in the fighting, their wives are left at home to raise babies and amuse themselves. Lusistrata has called together the women of Athens and Sparta to come up with a way to force their husbands to come to a peace agreement.

A new and upgraded terminal building at the Bloemfontein Airport in the Free State was officially opened by the Minister for Transport Sibusiso Ndebele.
“The airport development also prepares South Africa for the future influx of passengers as current projections indicate that South Africa may have to double capacity every nine years,” Ndebele said.
The R46m terminal reconfiguration project, also include an apron upgrade, a hotel, and a road alignment project, which were all expected to be completed by January 2010.
Ndebele said all the development projects by the Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) at airports should put the company in a place to accommodate the influx of passengers estimated to be over 35 million by 2010.
The company’s two biggest projects are the construction of the new international airport at La Mercy, to the north of Durban (R7bn) and the construction of the central terminal building (R900m) at the Cape Town International Airport.
Ndebele said by the end of 2012 the 10 airports under ACSA’s network should be able to handle over 40 million passengers.
“The addition of the new facilities here in Bloemfontein prepares us to deal with that expected influx beyond 2010,” he said.

Mango recently announced the addition of a new route between Johannesburg and Bloemfontein. The schedule, designed to accommodate full business days, will operate daily in the morning and evenings from 12 April. The airline has introduced an introductory offer of a limited number of seats at R 545 per one way flight between the cities on sale until 31 March. Mango has successfully operated a route between Bloemfontein and Cape Town since its launch.
“Demand between the cities is indicated as substantial,” says Mango CEO Nico Bezuidenhout. “The positive impact of low cost aviation to any particular destination has been proven worldwide,” he says, noting that the airline’s Bloemfontein Cape Town route has seen annual growth of 27%. Mango’s commitment to the City of Roses has been substantial, with the airline having already invested in full ground handling capacity at the airport. “Presently we handle the majority of all passenger movements at Bloemfontein airport,” says Bezuidenhout, “thus growth in our capacity is the next logical step.
Earlier this week, Mango also announced the next step in its partnership with online provider WirelessG. The airline plans to have Internet available across its fleet during the course of the year, pending CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) approvals. “Mango is growing, whether it’s our network or innovative ancillary revenue opportunities.”
Mango’s inaugural flight to Bloemfontein takes place on 12 April 2010 with flights on sale from 12 March, available on www.flymango.com, the call centre on 08611 62646 or at any Shoprite, Checkers and Checkers Hyper Moneymarket counters and travel agents.

On 8 and 9 May, CRC Bloemfontein plays host to celebrity speakers Basetsana Kumalo and Ivy Sutton at the church’s annual womens’ conference.
Hosted by Nyretta Boshoff, she invites women of all ages – and from all over South Africa – to once again flock to CRC Bloemfontein for a weekend of faith-building, fun and fellowship.

Basetsana Kumalo, or Bassie, as she is commonly known, is an acclaimed South African television personality, formidable businesswoman and philanthropist. Her life in the limelight began in 1990 when she was crowned as Miss Soweto and Miss Black South Africa at the tender age of 16. Although her parents played a huge role in her life and success, Bassie says her greatest influence in her life has been her faith in God, which she says has defined the path her life has taken. Basetsana is currently the President of the Business Women’s Association of South Africa. In 2004 Bassie was voted 74th on the list of Top 100 Great South Africans in 2004, the only Miss SA in the list. In 2006 Cape Town Fashion Festival gave Bassie the Fashion Icon Award. Femina Magazine nominated her as one of the Top 10 most glamorous women in SA. In 2002 and 2003 she was voted by Sunday Times and Elle Magazine in the TV Style Awards as the most stylish female magazine/entertainment show host. In 1994 she received the Honorary Scholarship for Overseas Studies from Nelson Mandela. Bassie is also a recipient of the annual Rapport/City Press Prestige Awards.

Ivy Sutton has woed female audiences both locally and abroad with her tongue in cheek talks on ‘Enjoying your husband’. Her passion to inspire and encourage women, has resulted in thousands of marriages and lives being transformed. Ivy is known for her challenging and humorous style of addressing real-life issues such as building friendships, enhancing marriages and developing character.
