Bloemfontein FIFA World Cup matches

“The city of roses”, Mangaung (Bloemfontein) will be hosting the 2010 soccer games at the Free State soccer stadium.

The name of the stadium derives from the province in which it is located, South Africa’s Free State Province.

The 2010 World Cup will not be the first time that the Free State stadium has been used for international events.

In 1996 The CAF African Cup of Nations was held here as well as in 1995 when the IRB Rugby World Cup was won by South Africa. Bloemfontein Celtics also call the stadium their alternate home ground.

The stadium which previously held 38,000 people had a costly upgrade and can now hold 48,000 supporters.
